However, your best days in recovery are miles better than your best days in a relapse. “If you come & follow our program, your life will be totally changed. It’s so easy to fall back into a relapse, and every time, it becomes harder to pull yourself out of it. A relapse is a bump in the road; it takes a lot, but you can overcome it.

It is an Harbor House emotional experience you have. It is not a fact or reality that is unavoidable nor a larger-than-life entity that exists beyond your ability to navigate past it. Let your fear come, and let it go.

Daily practice makes perfect

The complexity of both endings and beginnings in your life can also exist in your heart. Feeling a balance and inviting the pain alongside the excitement is not a failure or a step back. Meditation or other practices to spend time with acceptance and observation may help you move through the duality of new beginnings. Inspiring words take up little space yet leave a lasting imprint on your thoughts.

At least at the start you have rock bottom as the solid foundation upon which to begin rebuilding your life. There is a mountain above you which you have to climb. It can be hard to plough on when you don’t know what destination awaits. No matter what is waiting for you, it will no doubt be better than rock bottom and the relapse that came before it. We all feel fear; it’s an unavoidable part of the human experience from which you may grow or learn.

It’s the most wild ride I have ever been on. The process of recovery is a daily battle, one that I and many others are fighting every single day. If you are recovering from a mental illness, keep fighting no matter what. Recovery journey is never easy, we are here to help in any possible way. Having a stable job, having stable financial situation and helping us get back on track and building for future really helps. The job coach of our partner agency comes to coach any guests that are looking for jobs.

  1. You have to choose recovery each and every day.
  2. The use of quotes and inspirational words is nearly limitless, so apply them liberally to your life.
  3. Find room for the practice of accepting (and if you’re ambitious, celebrating) mediocrity in some of your skills or experiences.
  4. Feeling a balance and inviting the pain alongside the excitement is not a failure or a step back.
  5. Instead of simple tips or certain help, consider the power of these five tips to create possibilities for your new beginning.

We also work with local temp agencies, contractors and other employers. Our program of recovery also values peer support, which has brought great success in changing many lives. Having a recovery community to be part of is crucial in early sobriety.

The road will level out over time. I moved into a sober house that had a culture of recovery and lived there for 18 months. Afterwards I went back to school to become a drug and alcohol counselor. Shortly after graduation, the first recovery house was opened. Engaging in service work brings a sense of purpose, personal growth, and builds relationships.

We’ve all got something we want to change. Is it a new life in recovery or just a new hobby? No matter the size of your fresh start, it might feel a little intimidating to begin. Many amazing things have happened to me since February 4, 2008; it was a day that changed my life forever. Today I am a father of two amazing boys, Ricky and Carson, whom I want to set a great example for. I decided to dedicate my life to helping men rebuild their lives.
