  •

Arbitrary Waveform Generation

The series supports arbitrary waveform generation with a maximum sample rate of 625 MSa/s and 16-bit vertical resolution.

Standard arbitrary waveform memory is 2 Mpts per channel, while the optional memory upgrade increases capacity to 8 Mpts per channel.

Arbitrary waveform generation is useful for reproducing:

  • Sensor outputs
  • Biomedical signals
  • Communication patterns
  • Power disturbances
  • Irregular pulses
  • Recorded signal conditions
  • Automotive waveforms
  • Custom engineering test signals

The arbitrary waveform length can be configured from 32 points per channel to the installed memory limit.

SiFi II Signal Fidelity Technology

The DG800 Pro uses RIGOL SiFi II technology for point-by-point arbitrary waveform generation.

This approach is designed to:

  • Preserve the original waveform point sequence
  • Reduce skipped or repeated waveform points
  • Improve arbitrary waveform fidelity
  • Reduce signal jitter
  • Support precisely adjustable sample rates
  • Improve reproduction of complex waveform shapes

RIGOL specifies output jitter as low as approximately 200 ps RMS under applicable conditions.

Dual-Channel Signal Generation

The DG822 Pro and DG852 Pro include two output channels. The DG821 Pro provides one channel as standard and supports an optional second-channel upgrade.

Dual-channel operation is suitable for:

  • Simultaneous generation of two signals
  • Phase-related waveform testing
  • Differential circuit stimulation
  • Clock and data simulation
  • Reference and excitation signal generation
  • Two-stage circuit testing
  • Dual-input amplifier testing
  • I/Q signal simulation

Each channel can be configured with its own frequency, amplitude, offset, phase, waveform and modulation settings.

Frequency Capability

The maximum sine-wave frequency depends on the selected model:

  • DG821 Pro: 25 MHz
  • DG822 Pro: 25 MHz
  • DG852 Pro: 50 MHz

Waveform-specific frequency limits differ from the maximum sine-wave rating.

For the DG852 Pro:

  • Sine: up to 50 MHz
  • Square: up to 40 MHz
  • Ramp: up to 1 MHz
  • Pulse: up to 25 MHz
  • Arbitrary: up to 15 MHz
  • Harmonic: up to 25 MHz

For the DG821 Pro and DG822 Pro:

  • Sine: up to 25 MHz
  • Square: up to 20 MHz
  • Ramp: up to 1 MHz
  • Pulse: up to 10 MHz
  • Arbitrary: up to 10 MHz
  • Harmonic: up to 10 MHz

The maximum output frequency should therefore be specified according to the selected waveform type rather than applied to every signal function.

Sequence Generation

The DG800 Pro supports advanced sequence generation for combining multiple waveform events into one automated test profile.

The sequence function supports:

  • Up to 64 waveform entries
  • Up to 256 repetitions
  • Sample rates from 1 μSa/s to 312.5 MSa/s
  • Normal, step and interpolation filter modes

  • Seamless execution of programmed test cases

Sequence generation is useful for:

  • Automotive signal simulation
  • Power-state transition testing
  • Sensor-output sequences
  • Communication pattern generation
  • Production validation
  • Fault-condition reproduction
  • Multi-stage stimulus generation

A loop setting of zero can be used for continuous sequence repetition, depending on the configured sequence behaviour.

The seven-digit frequency counter can measure:

  • Frequency
  • Period
  • Duty cycle
  • Positive pulse width
  • Negative pulse width

It also supports statistical analysis of measurement results.

The frequency-counter input is separate from the waveform output channels, allowing an external signal to be measured while the generator produces test signals.
