  • Specification

The RIGOL M300 Series Data Acquisition and Switching System is designed for engineers, laboratories, production facilities and research teams that need to measure and monitor multiple signals through a single configurable platform.

Unlike an oscilloscope, the M300 is built specifically for multichannel data acquisition, switching, scanning and automated measurement. Its modular architecture allows users to combine a precision digital multimeter module with multiplexers, actuator channels, a switch matrix and multifunction input/output modules according to the test application.

The system is suitable for product performance testing during research and development, environmental monitoring, temperature logging, component validation, production-line testing and automated test equipment integration.

Modular Five-Slot Mainframe

The RIGOL M300 mainframe includes five plug-in module slots. These slots can accept different combinations of eight available module types.

Users can configure the system for:

  • Multichannel voltage measurements
  • Multichannel current measurements
  • Resistance testing
  • Temperature monitoring
  • Frequency and period measurements
  • Sensor data acquisition
  • Relay switching
  • Digital input and output control
  • Totalizer measurements
  • Analog signal output
  • Matrix switching

The modular design allows users to purchase only the measurement and switching functions required for the application. Modules can also be changed when testing requirements evolve.

The modules do not support hot plugging. The mainframe must be switched off before a module is inserted or removed.

Configurations Available

The RIGOL M300 Series is available in three primary configurations:

  • M300: Five-slot data acquisition and switching mainframe
  • M301: M300 mainframe with MC3065 6½-digit DMM module
  • M302: M300 mainframe with MC3065 DMM module and MC3120 20-channel multiplexer

The M300 base mainframe does not include a permanently built-in digital multimeter. Measurement capability is added through the MC3065 DMM module, an M301 or M302 bundle, or a compatible external digital multimeter.

6½-Digit Measurement Capability

The optional MC3065 digital multimeter module provides 6½-digit reading resolution for accurate multichannel measurements.

Supported measurement functions include:

  • DC voltage
  • AC voltage
  • DC current
  • AC current
  • Two-wire resistance
  • Four-wire resistance
  • Frequency
  • Period
  • Thermocouple temperature
  • Thermistor temperature
  • RTD temperature
  • User-defined sensor measurements

The DMM module can be installed in any mainframe slot. When it is used with compatible multiplexer modules, the system automatically routes each configured input channel to the measurement module during a scan.

Up to 320 Switch Channels

The M300 mainframe can support up to 320 switch channels when all five slots are populated with 64-channel MC3164 multiplexer modules.

When one slot is occupied by the MC3065 DMM module, the remaining four slots can support up to 256 directly measured channels using four MC3164 modules.

This distinction is important when selecting a configuration:

  • Up to 320 switch channels when all five slots are used for switching modules
  • Up to 256 measurement channels when one slot is reserved for the internal DMM module
  • Additional external DMM configurations may be created for specialised automated test systems

The selected channel capacity depends on the module combination and measurement method.

Maximum Scan Speed of 60 Channels per Second

The RIGOL M300 supports a maximum scan speed of up to 60 channels per second. This enables efficient monitoring of multiple test points in research, validation and production environments.

Actual scan performance can depend on:

  • Measurement function
  • Measurement range
  • Integration time
  • Auto-zero settings
  • Channel delay
  • Module type
  • Trigger configuration
  • Number of channels in the scan list

For applications requiring higher measurement accuracy or improved noise rejection, the scan rate may be reduced by using a longer integration time.

Standalone Data Acquisition

The M300 can perform data acquisition without being permanently connected to a computer.

The 4.3-inch colour display allows users to:

  • Create and edit scan lists
  • Configure individual measurement channels
  • Set scan intervals
  • Select trigger modes
  • Monitor channel values
  • View measurement curves
  • Check channel status
  • Review measurement statistics
  • Save and recall configurations
  • Examine alarm conditions

This standalone functionality is useful for laboratory benches, production stations and long-duration monitoring applications where a dedicated computer is not always required.

USB Data Logging

The system supports USB data logging and interval scanning. It can store up to 100,000 time-stamped readings for later review and analysis.

Recorded data can include:

  • Measurement values
  • Channel numbers
  • Measurement time
  • Scaling results
  • Alarm information
  • Statistical values

USB storage support helps users transfer acquired data to a computer for reporting, analysis and long-term record keeping.

Flexible Scan and Trigger Control

The M300 provides five trigger modes:

  • Automatic trigger
  • Manual trigger
  • External trigger
  • Absolute-time trigger
  • Alarm trigger

Automatic triggering supports configurable scan intervals. Users can configure a fixed number of scans or continuous scanning according to the monitoring requirement.

External triggering allows the M300 to synchronise with other equipment in an automated test setup. Alarm triggering can begin a scan when a selected channel meets a defined alarm condition.

Statistical Analysis and Alarm Monitoring

The M300 provides built-in statistical functions to help users evaluate acquired data directly on the instrument.

Available statistics include:

  • Average
  • Maximum
  • Minimum
  • Standard deviation

Upper and lower limits can be configured for individual channels. The system can display alarm conditions when a measurement exceeds the configured limits.

These functions are useful for:

  • Production pass/fail testing
  • Burn-in monitoring
  • Environmental testing
  • Component comparison
  • Process monitoring
  • Long-duration stability studies
  •

Remote Control and Automated Test Integration

The standard M300 configuration provides multiple communication interfaces:

  • USB Host
  • USB Device
  • LAN
  • GPIB
  • RS232

The LAN interface supports LXI Core 2011 Device functionality. The system also supports standard SCPI commands for remote programming and integration with automated test software.

These interfaces allow users to:

  • Configure the mainframe remotely
  • Start and stop scans
  • Retrieve measurement data
  • Control switching modules
  • Monitor alarms
  • Integrate the M300 into production systems
  • Build custom automated measurement applications
  •
